Motor Vehicle Coordinating Teacher c£27,500

Motor Vehicle Teacher, based in Southampton. Our client, a Further Education College is looking to recruit a co-ordinating teacher to oversee the Colleges part-time course provision and to play a significant role in the further development of the motor vehicle provision. The successful candidate will be expected to teach across the range of full and part time motor vehicle curriculum up to level 3 and a short technical course for the local trade.

Southampton City College is a specialist in vocational and applied academic learning for school leavers, adult learners, businesses and international students.

Description of duties

Reporting to the Head of Faculty via Curriculum Team Leader, main duties include:

• Teach and assess on courses as agreed with the Curriculum Team Leader and/or Head of Faculty
• Act as Personal Tutor to students as required and to deliver tutorials in line with the College Tutorial Policy
• Act as Course Team Leader, as required
• Ensure students are correctly enrolled with the college and awarding bodies
• Maintain and co-ordinate course records, and collate schemes of work, lesson plans and assessment plans
• Act as internal verifier in line with college policy and liaise with external verifiers
• Pay due attention to the principles of effective learning such as ICT developments, learning styles, equality of opportunity, differentiation and support for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities
• Maintain records of progress and co-ordinate reporting to interested parties
• Contribute to curriculum development and learning resources
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the relevant subject
• Develop and maintain and co-ordinate effective industrial links
• Organise and participate in relevant industrial visits
• Participate, as a team member, in the development of teaching methods and strategies towards an ethos of continuing improvement
• Carry out Quality Assurance and Self Assessment procedures in line with the College’s Quality Policy
• Contribute to the Faculty Development Plans

Experience/Qualifications

Successful candidates will have the following knowledge, experience/specialist skills:

• Appropriate Assessor and Verification qualifications
• Teaching Qualification
• Evidence of professional development and continuous updating of skills and knowledge
• Significant successful teaching experience
• Experience of contributing to course design and curriculum development
• Knowledge of effective approaches to curriculum management
• Knowledge of curriculum and course development
• Broad knowledge of trends and initiatives within the appropriate sector
• Knowledge of equal opportunities issues
• Knowledge of IT and its use in the curriculum and decision making
• Excellent communications skills
• Commitment to team working
• Commitment to achieving excellence through continuous improvement
• Ability to work flexibly to meet college requirements.

It is extremely desirable for candidates to posses the following:

• Degree or equivalent relevant higher qualification
